Discussions in Daniel (10) Daniel 2:46-49
Daniel 2:46-49 Nebuchadnezzar promotes Daniel after his dream is interpreted
Ian: Ps 75:6-7 – For promotion and power come from nowhere on earth, but only from God. He promotes one and deposes another.
Who would have thought that young Daniel, a captive, a Jew and an outsider, would have been promoted to Chief Magus by this vainglorious Babylonian king? Yet, it was God’s plan all along. We can see who is pulling the strings here!
Keith: The picture the scripture narrative constructs is breathtaking! Truly! The strongest and most powerful king that ever had ruled and dominated over what undoubtedly was the largest empire that had ever existed up to this time, falls to the floor, seemingly in the presence of his courtiers and ministers, prostrate on the ground at Daniel’s feet. I am prompted to submit to the suggestion that if the world wide king and dictator did such an act while addressing our prophet, whoever was present would have done the same.
So we have the image of the entire “world governmental body” of people quite literally paying homage to an immigrant displaced refugee … for what?
Daniel quietly and humbly had simply said, “ God has spoken to me about what you were thinking and dreaming the other night” (my own crude paraphrase ). For this, not only was Daniel exalted, but Nebuchadnezzar exulted in Daniel to a newly created position of power and elevation.
On top of that Daniel had the character and personhood to justify the sustaining of his new high office for the rest of his life beyond Neb’s reign.
I have to stop and meditate on the entire story as a movie clip. The prophet was higher than the king. Gasp! A prophet IS higher than a king.
