Militant simplicity
From Pete Greig
Thinking today about faith and the many set-backs we’ve faced along the way. How the simple act of not giving up has somehow made us stronger and maybe a bit wiser too. How the very things you’d expect to make us question everything have actually, ultimately deepened our faith.
I guess if all my prayers were answered I might well have great faith but I would never learn true faithfulness. Perhaps faithfulness – that luminous quality of all true saints – is nothing more than a long, slow defiance of painful circumstance. Nothing less than a sort of militant simplicity; a bloody-minded plodding; a darker kind of trust.
