Light Bearers

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. (Prov. 4:18)

Did you know that we are part of those who have been made righteous before God; our sinfulness has been taken away and we have been re-clothed in robes of righteousness (Is. 61:10)? If this is so, wherever we go, whomever we relate to, we are those who are potential light-bearers in all our speech and actions.

Imagine a mother carrying a candle from one room perhaps to a distraught child’s bedroom. Imagine the child watching for his mother. The candle can be seen by the child slowly making its way as a dome of light that grows bigger with each step taken. Just seeing the light moving ever closer brings a sense of security, peace and an expectation of care to the child. When the candle finally arrives in the bedroom, the whole room is bathed in light, and the one carrying the candle can be seen quite distinctly, and the distress of the child melts away………

Society is continuously being eroded and becoming darker by the week, and people are becoming increasingly frightened and looking for answers and reassurance. The only ones who can provide a different perspective that speaks light into the distress, despair and fear that many are experiencing, are you and me. Let us be those who bring light into our conversations, bring light into our dealings with those around us, bring light into the board rooms, offices, shop floors, university, colleges and classrooms where we will be spending our time today.
