Jehovah Salom

Today we are going to look at “Jehovah Shalom”, “The Lord send Peace.” God delights to choose for His service – and use – those who consider themselves unworthy and unequal to such a calling. Take Gideon in Judges 6 – he is a frightened and timid young man threshing the family wheat in an old wine press lest the Midianites spot him and steal the corn.

An angel of the Lord appears to him (it is a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus) and says, “The Lord is with you, MIGHTY WARRIOR!” Gideon’s response is a sort of, “WHO ME?” The angel demonstrates He is the one who can change Gideon from a COWARD to a CONQUEROR – so Gideon accepts the reality of what God can do and builds an altar there and call the place “Jehovah-Shalom”, “The Lord is Peace.” (Judges 6:24).

The Lord totally changes Gideon. “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon” (Judges 7:34). The verb there “labesh” is the word for putting on an item of clothing – so the Spirit “PUT ON” Gideon!!! That is the SECRET of any ministry and being at “peace” with all that God is doing, and wants to do, through us.
