God has spoken

I love that place at the beginning of the letter to the Hebrews where the writer says, “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times (3,808 times it says “thus says the Lord”) and in various ways (literally “bits and pieces” – polumeros & polutropos), but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (Hebrews 1:1).

In the Old Testament God has spoken to us in “bits and pieces” – sometimes in very important bits and pieces – like Isaiah – but in these last days (in the New Testament) we are given a WHOLE REVELATION in the Son (Jesus Christ). At the moment we don’t need anything more.
