Our two realities

There is another very, very important lesson to learn from yesterday’s Psalm! And it has to do with REALITY. The Christian experiences TWO strands of reality – the visible and the invisible – the seen and the unseen. We enjoy them both together – NOW!

That is what a study of “the names of God” has been teaching us. In yesterday’s Psalm the name of God was “Jehovah” – meaning “He IS, WAS and ALWAYS WILL BE” exactly what his people need – NOW – this very minute!!!!! Not a million miles away in Heaven – but NOW – NOW! (I don’t actually think the spiritual world – Heaven – is far away).

The reality of the “unseen world” being here now is seen in many places in the Bible: Moses met with God just up a mountain, Jesus told the thief on the cross, “Today you will be with me in paradise.”, the Mount of Transfiguration. In 2 Kings 6:17 when the city of Dothan was surrounded, Elijah said to the frightened little boy, “Those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.” The boy’s senses, his feelings and fears, are understandable if he couldn’t see the parallel REALITY of the invisible world. Fortunately the Lord opened his eyes and he saw it.

It is the same for us – we must learn the discipline of “living in two worlds” now, the seen and the unseen. It will make our problems bearable. “The Lord confides in this who fear Him” or “ The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him,” (Psalm 25:14).
